In other words, if the sales were going up, the books were released and the sales just kept going up - the increased sales might mean less.

If they were stable or declining and the sales went up, that would be an indication of benefit.

As far as the author with zero sales - he saw a benefit.  He is no longer obscure because that downloaded book was finally read by someone (assuming it was downloaded).</description>
